Instructions for Google Earth Files

Install The Google Earth Programme if necessary

  1. You do need a decent (3D?) graphics card and a broadband internet connection!  Most computers bought in the last few years should be OK, but laptops may need to be a little newer.

  2. If you don't already have it, you'll need to  .  It's not large, it's very cool, and it's free!

  3. Check Google Earth runs/displays OK.

If the graphics don't display correctly, exit the programme, and on Windows Start menu, under Google Earth, try telling Google Earth to start in DirectX mode or OpenGL mode (you'll already be using one, but it's not obvious which).

  4. If it still doesn't run properly, your computer (or it's graphics) may not be up to the job!

  5. Tip: If you open a Google Earth file and the graphics seem sluggish or jerky, try un-checking (turning off) the tracklogs.

Download/Open Google Earth Files

Click the appropriate link - if your browser asks if you'd like to "Open" or "Save" the Google Earth (KMZ) files, I suggest you choose to open them. They are reasonably sized, so there may be some delay before they open.

If you can't get Google Earth to work for whatever reason, copy the link to the file, and paste it into the "search box" at http://maps.google.com. The file must be on the web for this to succeed.

Incidentally my photos are geo-coded from tracklogs automatically using RoboGEO.
